Description
Baca National Wildlife Refuge | U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service
When you hear stories of the Old West and the Western Expansion, many times you'll hear descriptions of vast open landscapes that take your breath away. The endless vistas of meadows, mountains, and nature. The snowcapped mountains peering over green meadows as spring arrives. The sounds of elk bugling and cranes calling overhead during their fall rendezvous. Amazingly, this describes the Baca National Wildlife Refuge in all its essence. The 93,000-acre Refuge is a landscape of its own. With miles of creeks, expansive wet meadows, rolling uplands, and never ending playas, all nestled up against the Sangre De Cristo mountain range, the Baca National Wildlife Refuge sets itself apart.
